Lisbon Music College Symphony Wind Orchestra Concert

Back in 2015, after been premiered at the Lisbon Music College in 2014 by the Wind Symphony Orchestra, the Symphonic Choir of the Lisbon Music College, Sofia Ventura (soprano), Margarida Pinheiro (soprano), Pedro Matos (Tenor), Tiago Gomes Amado (Baritone), Alberto Roque (Artistic Director), Paulo Lourenço (choir director) and the conductor Inês Lopes, using a poem by E.E. Cummings, Courage…to follow the way was nominated as Best Work of Classical Music by the Portuguese Authors Society.

This year, Courage…to follow the way comes back to the stage in April to be perform by the Wind Symphony Orchestra and the Symphonic Choir of the Lisbon Music College.

Alberto Roque takes the leadership of the orchestra and Paulo Lourenço will prepare the choir one more time for this four-year-after performance.

Spring New Music Society Concert

“The Guildhall New Music Society is designed to represent new music of any stile being created pr performed at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. As well as putting on three concerts every year, we act as a bridge between composers, performers and other interested individuals at the school.”

Back in 2014, …from the last breath was awarded with the 1st prize of the III Edition of the Antena 2 / SPA Composition Award. At the gala, after I met the Clarinetist, Young Musician of the Year 2014 - Maestro Silva Pereira Award - European Ricing Star 2016-2017 and Debussy International clarinet Competition prize-winer, Horácio Ferreira we decided to work together and analogous… was born.

This year, in the Spring New Music Society Concert analogous… comes back to the stage to be performed by Edward Holmes at the Silk Street Music Hall at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.

Edward Holmes (1997) is a clarinetist from Cornwall where he studied with Steve Clifford and Colin Parr. In 2015 he was awarded a scholarship (Henry Wood Accommodation Trust) to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he is now in his fourth year of a Bachelors of Music (Hons) studying with Andrew Marriner and Joy Farrell, and saxophone with Martin Robertson. Ed plays regularly with the major Guildhall ensembles including the Symphony Orchestra and Opera Orchestra. He also plays in other exciting ensembles based in London; these include principal clarinet in the Capital Orchestra and Brixton Chamber Orchestra. Other recent professional engagements include performances of Weber’s clarinet concerto no.1 with the Truro Symphony Orchestra, La Boheme with the Dorset Opera Festival and playing in the West End Christmas in Covent Garden with Brian May.

He is also a keen chamber musician and is bass clarinetist in the Barbican Clarinet Quartet. Ed has performed in masterclasses with Pascal Moragues, Anthony McGill, David Campbell, David Howard and Tim Lines. He is also a previous winner of the Two Moors Young Musicians Platform competition.
